SSMF awards two types of aid, funded by our generous endowment benefactors and Festival supporters, are awarded on the basis of merit and need.

Merit-Based Scholarships

All students will be considered for merit based scholarship support based on the quality of your application and the needs of the festival. Merit based awards are made early, so if you are interested in a merit award, we suggest you complete your application ASAP.  Merit awards are not based on student or family financial need.

Work Study

To be considered for need based work study, you must complete the financial aid portion of the online application. Work study students will be expected to complete a set number of hours each week in a variety of tasks based on their experience and skills.  These positions could include work in the office, front of house, library or production/stage crew.

Students can receive both merit-based scholarship and work study aid to attend Sewanee.
Over 60% of our festival participants receive some kind of financial aid to attend Sewanee.
Payment plans are available.
Festival Fellowship

Reserved for the most advanced performers, festival fellowships will be awarded based on the quality of your audition video application and recommendation of the faculty.  All festival fellows must be at least 20 years of age or older. Fellowship students will play leading roles in our orchestras, represent the festival in community outreach concerts, composer readings and conductor workshops, and other performance or teaching based tasks as assigned by the staff and faculty.
