Virtual Composition Program

The 2020 Virtual SSMF Composition Program is available for all students accepted into the 2020 Sewanee Summer Music Festival. Students will have the opportunity to participate in individual lessons, group classes, and seminars with acclaimed Artist Faculty Jorge Variego, and connect with students of composition across the world, all from the safety of their own homes.

Monday-Tuesday: Individual Lessons (1 hour)

Each student will receive five online individual lessons during the four weeks.

Wednesday: Group Sessions (1 ½ hour)

Each student will participate in four composition seminars. These meetings will consist of a Zoom group meeting and will be dedicated to a specific composer or work. Some of these sessions will be lead (live) by guest composers, conductors, and performers.

Thursday Group Orchestration Class (1 ½ hours)

Each student will participate in four orchestration sessions. The study materials will be provided.

Friday Electronic Music Seminar (1 ½ hours)

Each student will participate in five sessions dedicated to electronic music. In these sessions, we will discuss aspects of recording and mixing, digital transformation and sound processing, and more. The fifth session of the seminar will be a concert showcase of everyone’s works.

Tuition and Fees

The total cost of tuition for the composition program is $465, which includes a subscription to our Virtual Masterclass Series, a presentation of classes and seminars over the course of the summer on a wide range of topics applicable to all program areas. The program offerings cannot be prorated, modified, or offered a la carte. To complete registration, please pay your tuition here.

The Sewanee Summer Music Festival reserves the right to deny registrants and refund fees to anyone who does not have the proper level of training to participate in the course.
