For the past 60 years, talented music students have found their way up the Mountain for four summer weeks of music-making under the direction of seasoned professionals who teach, direct and inspire them to new heights in music making. Their time here is not solely about musical technique and virtuosity. It is about finding the desire and inner resources to take on a new challenge, learn to work with others, practice and perform at a new level.
Visiting conductors and music educators comment that the enthusiasm SSMF students show for each other is a rare commodity; students are the first to spring to their feet in a standing ovation for their peers. This is the SSMF experience, truly Mountaintop.
Donors to the Festival have provided more than $100,000 in scholarship, making this remarkable experience possible to students from 37 states and five foreign countries.
