Honduran-born conductor and violist Mario Alejandro Torres leads the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra at the University of the South, where he brings together students, faculty, and community members in performances that celebrate connection and creativity. He has also led ensembles such as the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra, Poulsbo Community Orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest, Seattle Festival Orchestra, and the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra.

In Seattle, Torres made his Benaroya Hall debut with the University of Washington Symphony Orchestra, performing alongside Maestros Ludovic Morlot and David Alexander Rahbee. He later joined the Seattle Symphony as a conducting fellow, assisting Maestro Morlot in concerts that featured violinist Hilary Hahn and composer John Luther Adams.

As a violist, Torres has appeared as a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of San Pedro Sula, the NSULA Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the Rapides Symphony Orchestra, and at the Monteux School and Music Festival. His orchestral playing has included performances with Symphoria, the Shreveport Symphony, and the Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra, as well as international touring with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas across Europe.

Dedicated to expanding access to music, Torres has also collaborated with institutions such as the National Music School of Suriname and the Music Academy Occide Jeanty in Haiti, using music as a platform for cultural exchange and social impact.
